***Does your child have headphones or earbuds at school? Please ask and be sure to send in a pair that can stay at school all year!

Language Arts: 


3rd graders - Read 20 mins (minimum) each night

4th graders - Read 30 mins (minimum) each night

(Bring in a chapter book to read in class. You will keep your book inside your binder)

 

Language Arts Focus:

We are excited to for our Because of Winn Dixie novel study. Our book study focus will be on the following strategies: connecting/inferring/sequencing/summarizing/questioning/visualizing/evaluating/word skills/author's purpose


-Personal Narrative Essay/Show Don't Tell/Leads and Hooks/Figurative Language/ Simile/Metaphor/Idiom

-We learned to write a well developed, structured paragraph with a topic sentence, supporting details, transitions and a closing sentence.  We are also learning to write narrative essays to develop experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive detail and clear event sequences.  



Language Arts: 
We are researching for our nonfiction reading and writing unit!


Spelling:   This week's test will be on Friday and the game assignments are due on the test date.  If your child is ever absent for a Friday spelling test, it will be active online that morning and can be done at home.

This week's word pattern: Week 13:  We are working on  words with /k/ sound: -k, -ck, -nk, -ch, -qu, -c

3rd grade Math - 

-H 3-13

-Get Quick Quiz 3 signed and show me tomorrow!

-Get Unit 3 test review letter signed and return the bottom portion to me. We completed unit 3 test review together in class.   

-Unit 3 Test Thursday (February 2nd)

-Today in class we completed journal pages: 202-203

-XtraMath: Complete 3+ sessions on XtraMath each week

-OLT (6s x /) due 2/6/23 (Students will complete this assignment at home.)  Study your facts before taking the quizzes.  There will be a multiplication and a division quiz. 

-4+ iReady lessons must be PASSED this week by Friday. 

Teach your parent about the mountains, hills and rocks we use to calculate elapsed time!

-In unit 3 we are learning about measurement, time and graphs!  We will draw scaled picture graphs and bar graphs. Also, we will use number lines to represent intervals and use drawing to represent a problem involving liquid volume and mass.  Lines plots will be made to record data.

Social Studies –

-Teach a parent what you have learned about during your State research. How do geographers study the regions of the United States? Teach a parent about lines of latitude/longitude/map key/special purpose maps/scales and symbols/global grid/cardinal/intermediate directions/US regions


Science –

-Motion and Matter focus questions: What happens when magnets interact with other magnets and with paper clips?  How is the magnetic field affected when more magnets are added?  Ask your child what a force is and what the two types of forces are.

If your child ever has extra time and you want to give him/her something extra to do, i-Ready reading and math lessons are always there waiting for them in ClassLink!  We are going to try to work on them when we have time in class to earn time for games on Fridays.  Every lesson your child completes is beneficial!
