4th Grade Reading:  30+ minutes

Language Arts:

Currently we are focused on Figurative Language.  We are working on revising our narratives to add this language in and enjoying the novel, "The Year of the Dog". Ask your child to share with you a summary of  what we have read so far!  It is such a great book!

Word Study:  On Friday we were excited to introduce our first word study assignment.  Please ask your child to share his/her words with you and the assignment that is due by Wednesday, December 16th.  Once your child has completed all of the assignments, he/she is ready to take the test online (Spelling TestMe).  Feel free to practice with your child first!  Remember, we are focused on patterns of spelling and how we use them across our language as well as vocabulary.  There is so much to learn about words in our language!

3rd Grade Math:

Today we learned that when we solve a two step word problem, we write and evaluate two separate expressions.  Tonight students are going to stretch their thinking and practice writing a two step word problem that uses multiplication and subtraction.  Then solve the two step word problem.

JP 135-136 (we did these in class together and with a partner)

R only #5 (stretch your thinking)

Online Tests were due  December 16   (9 *facts)

XTRA MATH:  Use the letter your parent received in an email to register your child.  The email was generated through xtramath.  (You may need to check your spam folder.)  Please use a permanent marker to write 4 digit student pin as well as the registered parent email the account in the front cover of the planner.  This will allow your child to access his account at home or school!

What do you know about the contemporary lives of Metro Detroit's Native Americans? Join Mr. Mat Brown, Covington School teacher, Ashinique Soney-Wesaw, and Teiana McGahey and Nickole Fox from American Indian Health and Family Services as they explore some myths and misconceptions that people have about Native Americans in Metro Detroit today. 4th Grade Math:

Please ask your child to share with you my introduction of long division.  If your child is feeling confused, this is normal.  It takes days of practice for most students to feel confident with the many steps in long division.  I reminded them that when we learned traditional multiplication, that took us time as well.  The more you are able to review with your child, the easier it will become.  You will also see that it is detrimental to their progress in long division if they are not secure in their math facts.  Please continue to work daily towards mastering math facts 1-12 in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  5-10 minutes a day makes a huge difference!
