IN CASE YOU’RE THINKING AHEAD TO HALLOWEEN
At BCS, our students and staff enjoy Halloween with a morning parade and party in the morning (as it is a half day of school), as you prepare a costume for your child, please be sure your it is an appropriate costume for school in order to avoid scaring any of our younger students.  We ask that students avoid the following:
-masks that cover the face (masks restrict vision, can lead to accidents, and often frighten our younger students) blood-like makeup, real or pretend weapons (knives, guns, swords, etc.), evil, scary, or horror characters
-Some suggestions for students costumes include:  Inventors, Animals, clothing from an historical period, Presidents, Ethnic clothing, Community helpers (police, fire fighter…), Super heroes, Careers (doctor, teacher, engineer…), Book characters, Sports (football player, snowboarder, marathoner…), Friendly characters, Food. You could even develop a costume that embraces our BCS Theme Moral Courage!  Remember that children tend to "act" their costumes, so the appropriateness of the costume is important.  Thank you in advance for helping make this day an enjoyable one for our students.

-masks that cover the face (masks restrict vision, can lead to accidents, and often frighten our younger students) blood-like makeup, real or pretend weapons (knives, guns, swords, etc.), evil, scary, or horror characters

Some suggestions for students costumes include:  Inventors, Animals, clothing from an historical period, Presidents, Ethnic clothing, Community helpers (police, fire fighter…), Super heroes, Careers (doctor, teacher, engineer…), Book characters, Sports (football player, snowboarder, marathoner…), Friendly characters, Food. You could even develop a costume that embraces our BCS Theme Moral Courage!  Remember that children tend to “act” their costumes, so the appropriateness of the costume is important.  Thank you in advance for helping make this day an enjoyable one for our students.

BCS Character Ed Word of the Week:  INTEGRITY
“Integrity is telling myself the truth. And honesty is telling the truth to other people.” – Spencer Johnson

Please initial the planner each day at the bottom to show us that you are aware of what has been assigned!

The blue take home folder is in your child's binder!   Please have your child share these with you.  You will see papers in there throughout the year at random times.  Please prompt your child to bring you those items when they appear!

Ask your child if he/she is leaving class a lot to get a drink of water!  If so, please send your child with a WATER BOTTLE to keep here in class and refill each day!

Today's Homework:

Choice Hour Selection Sheets came home and are due October 15.

***For reading homework, your child is free to read anything as long as it is approved by you!  This includes magazines, newspapers, chapter books, anything!
3rd Grade Reading:  20 or more minutes
4th Grade Reading:  30 or more minutes

3rd Grade Math:
We learned how to use the distributive property to help us problem solve.

Make sure you cut out the strategy cards on pages 41-66 in the HR journal and put in a baggie.  Keep these at home and use these strategy cards to practice your multiplication and division facts!

Online tests are due Friday, 10-11-19 (Click on the link "thatquiz" and log in using the animal password to take the quiz AFTER you have studied for a few days.)

Students should practice studying the 9 facts 10+ minutes each day.  Students can go onto https://www.thatquiz.org/, click on arithmetic, set the timer, set the level to 9 and click on x/ and FOCUSED.   Another good way to practice is to use flash cards or the home check sheet in the homework journal and the strategy cards.

Xtramath:
 3 days per week minimum

Xtramath Enrollment flyers were given out in class to those student still needing to enroll. Please let me know if you need another copy. We will focus on Multiplication using this site. Please ask a parent to follow the directions on the Xtramath flyer.

Parents - If your child used Xtramath in 2nd grade, please enroll them using the code on their letter so that they begin where they left off with previous multiplication practice. If they did not do multiplication yet, this is where they will start

4th Grade Math:
Yesterday as well as today we spent a large amount of time learning the "Traditional" method for Multiplication.  We finished up the handouts we started yesterday and completed new ones.  We have five problems on one handout that is part of tonight's homework.
