Meet The Teachers

Working together, parents and teachers CAN make a difference!

ALL ABOUT MRS. BUTZIN...

I began teaching at BCS in November, 2000, and I am looking forward to working with you as a partner in educating your child. I am convinced that BCS is the place to be! I earned my undergraduate degree from Georgia State University and received my master’s

degree in education from Mercer University. My husband, Jason, is a chiropractor with offices located in Sterling Heights and Harrison Township. I enjoy playing with my children, Steele and Sloan, running, reading and going to the beach to visit my parents!

I am a descendant of a long line of educators whom had a drive to help foster the population of the future. My grandmother was a former teacher, and her five siblings and their spouses were all in the field of education. My stepfather and mother have retired from their positions as college librarian and elementary school media specialist respectively. One could say that teaching is in my genes!

I believe that children vary as to their backgrounds, abilities, and styles of learning; and the child's success depends primarily on a combination of self-concept, student endeavor, parental encouragement and teacher support.

My classroom provides a nurturing learning environment that encourages children to become independent and enthusiastic learners. I strive to achieve and maintain a balance between cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills.

My training and experience have shown me that students learn best when they are active participants in the learning process. Therefore, my approach promotes active student participation in academics. I utilize content to develop skills and challenge students through practices such as cooperative learning and authentic assessment. Because all students learn in diverse ways, I implement an eclectic mix of instructional techniques including technology and innovative teaching methods. Students in my classroom are cognizant of the goals that they must achieve through instruments such as rubric grading and clearly defined objectives. I strive to provide a means for all students to succeed regardless of the individual learning styles.

One important aspect of my philosophy of teaching is initiating and developing positive relationships with each family. Parents are the most important person in a child's life, and no one knows the child as well as a parent does. Because communication between the parent and teacher is essential, I have an open door policy in my classroom.

I promise to serve as a positive role model to my students, to promote self-esteem, to enable students to grow in and beyond the school environment, and to prepare students to face the challenges of life.

I love teaching, I love kids and I know that BCS is the best place to be!

ALL ABOUT MRS. FRISHMAN...

I was born and raised in Farmington Hills, Michigan. I have a wonderful mom and dad who still live there! My older sister and brother-in-law live very close by, and we see them all the time (especially because we have the cutest nieces in the whole world)!

On July 31st, 2004, I married Michael who I met while earning my elementary education degree at The University of Michigan. In December, 2004, I graduated from Marygrove College with a Master’s in Elementary Education. I then completed a Master’s in Reading and Literacy in December, 2006. All of the hard work paid off!

Michael and I love to swim, take walks, ride bikes and spend time with our friends and family. My absolute favorite activity is yoga!

On June 10th, 2009, we welcomed our first baby into our family! We had a beautiful baby girl named Hayden, and we think she is the best!!! We enjoy every second with her and are having the greatest time watching her grow! On March 20th, 2013, we were lucky enough to welcome our son Sam into the world! He is amazing and we are having so much fun! We know we are so fortunate each and every day!

This is my sixteenth year at BCS and I never want to leave! We have the best school, students, parents, and teachers, and I love being here every day!
