PTA Reflections 2022-2023

Calling all BCS artists!! It’s time for the annual PTA Reflections Art Contest!  This year’s theme is: “Show Your Voice!” Reflections is an annual, nationwide student art competition sponsored by the National PTA. Students should reflect on the theme and create original art in the categories of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, visual arts, and special artists. Homework:

***Does your child have headphones or earbuds at school? Please ask and be sure to send in a pair that can stay at school all year!

***Does your child leave class a lot to get drinks?  If you ask and he/she says yes, please send a water bottle daily!


Language Arts: 


3rd graders - Read 20 mins (minimum) each night

4th graders - Read 30 mins (minimum) each night

(Bring in a chapter book to read in class. You will keep your book inside your binder)

 

We are learning to write a well developed, structured paragraph with a topic sentence, supporting details, transitions and a closing sentence.  We are also learning to write narratives to develop experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive detail and clear event sequences.  


Spelling:  

We took a test on our words and received our new words.  Ask to see the words as the spelling list was written in the planner.   You can also find the spelling list in Power Spelling along with the games.  Students should play all games on Power Spelling before Friday!  

Our next spelling test is Friday, October 28th.  If your child is ever absent for a Friday spelling test, it will be active online that morning and can be done at home.

This week's word pattern: Week 4: Homophones.  

*You will want to be sure that you understand the meaning of each word before the test!

The test on the 28th be on the following words:  vein, days, scent, weight, peak, wait, feet, peek, vane, heel, minor, miner, her, there, heard, feat, heal, their, cent, daze


Math:


3rd grade Math - 

-Share the family letter for unit 2 with a parent and get a signature

-Complete 1 iReady math lesson due  Monday


-XtraMath: Complete two sessions with Mr. C.

-Study X / facts for 10 minutes (We are focused on 2's for the quiz.)

-OLT due Friday, October 21 (Students will complete this assignment at home.)  Study your facts before taking the quizzes.  There will be a multiplication and a division quiz. 



4th Grade Math –

You have 20 traditional multiplication problems to complete on Thatquiz.org.  USE SCRAP PAPER TO SOLVE THEM AND ENTER YOUR ANSWERS AS YOU GO!  These problems are due tomorrow!

We have one iready math lesson to complete by Wednesday this week!

OLT #3 is due on 10-31-22.  You can do it!  Please email me if you do not beat last test's scores and we can reset it.


Science –Motion and Matter focus questions: 

What happens when magnets interact with other magnets and with paper clips?  How is the magnetic field affected when more magnets are added?  Ask your child what a force is and what the two types of forces are!


Social Studies –Exploring Regions of the US Focus questions: 

What do social scientists do: economy/geography/history/political science?  How do geographers study the regions of the United States: scale/symbols/lines of latitude and longitude/kinds of maps?

If your child ever has extra time and you want to give him/her something extra to do, i-Ready reading and math lessons are always there waiting for them in ClassLink!  We are going to try to work on them when we have time in class to earn time for games on Fridays.  Every lesson your child completes is beneficial!
