Tomorrow (Wednesday) morning during math class, our students will be taking the NWEA reading or math test starting at 8:15. If your child is at home during
this time, we desperately need you to take care of this checklist before we
begin. Hearing from other teachers, if you go through this checklist, it
is much easier to give this assessment remotely. #3 in particular is
supposed to be important for settings.
Thank you for your help in preparing the kids for this
assessment!

Teachers will be proctoring the
testing session. At home instructions include:

**Please write your child's google and Schoology logins and passwords in their planners. We are learning that they had them bookmarked at home and don't remember them to log in here on our computers Please help us as we did not receive the emails you did in August with the kids logins and passwords. Having your child practice this at home a few times without a bookmarked site will really help with logging into schoology and google on a school computer. Thank you so much for your help.
Here is your homework for today:
Remember to pack 3 sharpened pencils for class each day!
***For students who are coming to school: PLEASE BRING EVERYTHING WITH YOU EACH DAY!!! This means your math materials, writer's notebooks, language arts packets/books, social studies, Scholastic News, and anything else we could possibly be working on.
3rd Grade Reading: 20+ minutes
4th Grade Reading: 30+ minutes
Language Arts: Your completed Winn-Dixie packet is due on Thursday for our distribution day. Everything should be complete and should show your best work! You will also turn in your book when you turn in your packet. Today we learned about writing leads in class. Ask your child to share the lead he/she wrote in class. Here is a sample.
3rd Grade Math:
Xtramath: 10+ minutes (3 times a week)
Online quizzes due October 23
Study *4 for 10 minutes each day
XtraMath: Make sure you have enrolled in this program.
Study your strategy cards for ten minutes (our focus this week is *4)
ThatQuiz Online Tests: Multiplication online tests should be completed. Ask your child to show you his/her completed online tests for X2 and X3 (and any that are incomplete). There are a few students who need to complete these.
XTRA MATH:
Use the letter your parent received in an email to register your child. The email was generated through xtramath. (You may need to check your spam folder.) Please use a permanent marker to write 4 digit student pin as well as the registered parent email the account in the front cover of the planner. This will allow your child to access his account at home or school!
4th Grade Math:
Study your facts for 10+ minutes
Online tests will be due on Friday, October 23rd. This is the fifth round we are taking. Remember to actually PRACTICE your facts before taking these online tests. Also, feel free to ask an adult to do the typing for you while you call out the answers.
Book orders can be completed any time online. The next round is due by Friday, October 30th.
Choice Hour Updates:
Please direct all Choice Hour questions to Courtney Bassett at cbassett@birmingham.k12.mi.us
October 14 – November 2Choice Hour will continue virtually for the remainder of Quarter I (through Nov 2). No new choice hours are starting right now – students are still taking their Quarter I Choice Hours. For 3-4 students in Cohort B who may miss choice hour due to taking the bus or traveling home for the remaining 2.5 weeks, asynchronous participation will be encouraged. If you have not heard from your teacher regarding asynchronous material, you are encouraged to reach out to the Choice Hour teacher to inform them that your student will be missing and to inquire what they could do. As a reminder, view your students schedules on the Choice Hour Schedules doc and find the zoom links on the Choice Hour Zoom Links doc.
November 2 – January 15
Choice Hour Quarter II will be offered daily at two different time slots: 10:50am-11:30pm and 3:25-4:10pm. All Choice Hour will be offered virtually. The course offerings will be outlined in the Choice Hour Booklets when they are released later in October. The course descriptions will include information on which time slot the class is offered. Offerings will NOT necessarily be the same in each time slot on a given day. All students (regardless of cohort or if they are virtual) can sign up for Choice Hour in either time slot daily, but not both in one day. This flexibility is meant to offer all of our students the option to choose the time slot that works best for them on any given day. Students can enroll in one time slot one day, and the other one the next day.
Examples of participation might include:
A student in the PM cohort might prefer the morning time slot of Choice Hour since they will be traveling home on the bus or in the car during the PM Choice Hour time slot.
Virtual Students might prefer the morning time slot in order to help fill time during the break.
AM cohort students might prefer the PM Choice Hour Time Slot because they will be traveling during the AM Choice Hour time slot.
