Dear families,
You should have received your Take Action Kit from
our Think! Energy presentation. This program is sponsored by DTE and helps our
students learn about energy and natural resources. Please review the items in
the kit, including the Family Guide and Installation Instructions. To
complete the program, students should do the following:
- Over the next few days install the items from the kit or give them to someone who will Complete the Home Energy Worksheet, HEW, to help our class earn a classroom award. You can complete the online survey at https://thinkenergy.org/michigan/hew.
- If
you choose to provide a valid adult email address on your HEW, you will
be entered to win a $50 Amazon eGift card! There will be one winner per
registered teacher. Winners will be notified via email provided on the
HEW. HEWs must be received by May 8, 2025 at 3 PM EST to be entered
into the drawing.

Our book ordering will be exclusively online.
Math:
-3rd Grade:
Get Unit 5 Test Letter signed and show me on Friday.
- On Friday, April 11, we will have our Unit 5 math test. An OPTIONAL Unit 5 Additional Practice Packet and an OPTIONAL fraction packet will be coming home on Monday. Books and test letters will be coming home on Tuesday. A cool down review packet will be completed in class and will be coming home on Thursday.
Get Checkpoint D signed: Students are bringing home Checkpoint D for a signature on Tuesday April 8. Students will show me the signature and keep it in the Take Home Folder to use as a review for Unit 5.
-Complete at least 3 sessions of Xtramath by Friday. Many students have graduated from Xtramath (x and /) and several more are very close! (Students should complete 1 session which is about 5-7 minutes. Click continue until Mr. C says that you are done!)
We also have 63 iready math lessons due by Friday, April 4th. These can be accessed on any device with internet. Visit Birmingham Public Schools and search for ClassLink.
In class class we have a goal of completing one "fluency flight" a day in our math iready program. If your child misses a day of school, please ask him/her to complete this at home. It takes about 5 minutes.

-4th Grade:
On Friday, April 11, we will have our Unit 6 math test. Books should be coming home on Tuesday. Test letters went home today along with a geometry review packet we have been working through.
Last week, we had 15 of our 25 math students graduate from online tests! Congratulations!!
Our next set of online tests are due on April 14th. Anyone who gets 90 or higher on all four online tests, is eligible to graduate on Monday, April 14th! Please email me if you want to try any again and I am happy to reset them!

Language Arts:
-Bring chapter books to read in class. You will keep your books inside of your desk.
-3rd graders: Read 20 minutes each night
-4th graders: Read 30 minutes each night
***We have 63 iready reading lessons passed by Friday. Please ask your child to work on the assigned lessons before heading back to his/her path (these assigned lessons count towards their total). Please ensure your child is caught up!
Writing: We are currently learning how to read and write informational text. Our current writing topic is on how to save sea turtles. We are learning to introduce a topic clearly and group related information in paragraphs and sections; include formatting (e.g., headings), illustrations, and multimedia when useful to aiding comprehension.
Word Study: #25: Words with silent consonants
We will take out spelling test in class on Friday! Each week your child will write the words in his/her planner. The word lists are also available to study using Powerspelling (your child knows their login). This is an optional way to study if your child has their own device at home. Student logins are taped inside of your child's planner. Please show your weekly spelling test score to your parents in Powerspelling- Click Scores/Results.
Ask you child about the Language Arts Learning Targets:
Personal Narrative Essay- Ask your child to share with you the character, setting, problem and solution of his/her Constellation Narrative Essay that we are writing. Remember to include details about the sights, sounds and actions that you included to describe the setting of the story.
-What is the message of Sarah, Plain and Tall? -Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences. -Orient the reader by establishing a situation and introducing a narrator and/or characters; organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally. -Use narrative techniques, such as dialogue, description, and pacing, to develop experiences and events or show the responses of characters to situations. -Use a variety of transitional words, phrases, and clauses to manage the sequence of events. -Use concrete words and phrases and sensory details to convey experiences and events precisely. -Provide a conclusion that follows from the narrated experiences or events. |
